Canturana and Qitana made a big step up in Hagen this past weekend, with Canturana making her 1.60m Grand Prix debut and Qitana jumping her first 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier.
Both horses have come a long way since they arrived at Kathi’s stable a little over a year ago, jumping in the 1.35-1.40m classes – and this weekend they both showed that they are developing in the right direction.
Qitana placed 8th in Friday’s 1.45m Longines Ranking class after jumping clear all the way, and Canturana was clear in the first phase of Saturday’s 1.50m Longines Ranking class unfortunately clipping a pole lightly in the second phase.
On Sunday, Qitana jumped the 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier – her biggest test to date. She did a very good job, qualifying Canturana for the Grand Prix the nest day after jumping a demanding and difficult course. In the Grand Prix, Canturana had two rails down – both came out of the triple combination – but jumped the rest of the big Grand Prix track easy. The faults can be put on the account for lack of experience, and Kathi is very happy with how Canturana jumped.
The next show for Kathi will be the CSI2* event in Valkenswaard, Netherlands from 8-10th of May.
