Surprising us all – considering their very short partnership – Quebracho Semilly and Kathi finished fifth in the five star Longines Grand Prix in Falsterbo on Sunday. This was Quebracho and Kathi’s second show, and first Grand Prix, together – but that did not stand in their way of a top result. The two opened with a clear round in Thursday’s 1.50 class, but Kathi saved Quebracho the rest of the weekend with the Grand Prix in mind. The tactic paid off, and Quebracho jumped a beautiful first clear round under Kathi’s guidance. In the second round the two were unlucky as Kathi lost her stirrup in a sharp turn to the penultimate vertical, and also a little balance – with a rail falling as a result. The time would have been good enough for second place had they stayed clear, but Kathi was nevertheless all smiles about Quebracho’s performances this weekend.
The result was very welcome after a Nations Cup that did not live quite up to the expectations. Charlie jumped an incredible first clear round, but had two down early on in the second round after being a little bit unfocused in the beginning of the track.
Luigi also did very well this weekend; he was clear in the first 1.45 class, had one down in the second class and also only an unlucky pole down in his five star 1.50 debut. He is progressing quickly, and Kathi thinks a lot about him.
All in all a good weekend in Falsterbo. Next stop Aachen!
